- This Transumo project aims to address more than one Transumo target: making contributions
to reducing demand for transport, enhancing energy efficiency in a transport mode,
transfer of traffic to less energy intensive modes, providing economic instruments
and incentives, as well as information and awareness and education.
- This can be done by the unique character of Pay As You Drive (PAYD) – providing
powerful financial incentives to drivers to optimise mobility patterns – on a European
level, and on a scale not seen before in in-vehicle telematics.
- There is one special point of attention. PAYD will introduce variabilisation of
car costs through service innovation in the private (insurance) sector. Moreover,
PAYD offers the perspective of large scale implementation of variabilisation, through
the specific dynamics of the car insurance market in the coming years: PAYD will
ultimately become dominant in this market. Therefore, variabilisation can finally
be implemented - without further delay as a result of political discussion and choices.
