In mobility policies, reliability of the transportation service is considered to
be a prime quality factor for the process. Primarily it can be questioned what is
really important to a traveller. Factors such as punctuality, connections, comfort,
predictability of information come to mind. Secondly it can be asked whether the
most important factors for travellers are in correspondence with the KPIs (Key Performance
Indicators) used by the government to assess the performance of the Dutch Railways
(NS) and the Dutch rail infrastructure manager (ProRail)? In other words, is the
sector currently supervised on the appropriate performance indicators?
This Transumo project aims to answer these and other related questions. The program
has 5 main subprojects:
- Appreciation reliability/punctuality by the customer
- Marketing of reliability
- Traffic planning en management
- Incentive steering
- Pilots
The project aims to show that:
- Travellers will make different transport chain decisions based on reliable information
- Reliability of transport chains can be improved by proper incentives
- Better collaboration between the most important PT-actors is possible and will result
in a significant increase of traffic via PT.
- It pays to invest in those subjects which result in better appreciation by the customer
This project formally started in September 2005. By this time all subprojects (except
pilots) have been started. The first seminar was held in February of 2006 and the
Seminar Reliability took place on 22th June 2006 (www.seminarreliability.nl). The
first reports – literature studies - have been reviewed and released
